Regional star does four million impressions

The web offering of Britain's biggest-selling regional evening newspaper, the Express & Star, has reached a new milestone by breaking through the four million barrier for monthly page impressions.

According to the latest figures published by the Audit Bureau of Circulation Electronic (ABCe), Expressandstar.com reached a new monthly high of 4.07 million hits.

The figure also represents a staggering growth in the popularity of its online operation, marking a 308% increase on the 1.32 million monthly impressions it was getting 12 months ago.

The news site has also seen a year-on-year increase in unique users by 94% to more than 315,000 unique impressions. The website now enjoys online traffic averaging at nearly 20,000 daily users.

One of the few remaining independent newspapers in the UK, the Express & Star serves readers in Wolverhampton, the Black Country and much of the West Midlands.

Express & Star editor Adrian Faber said the rise in traffic reflected the efforts of the online team and the quality of the newsroom's work.

He said that the newspaper remained at the core of the business but everything it did online could only help raise the profile of the Express & Star.

The newspaper, he added, was continuing to explore ways of making best use of new technology for the benefit of its readers.
